EQT supports SatPort Infrastructure in acquiring the business of Speedcast transfer stations, in order to expand the global satellite ground infrastructure platform.
This acquisition has added 12 new transmission stations across five continents, making SatPort Infrastructure a global, specialized, and neutral operator ground infrastructure platform targeting satellite operators, governments, and corporate customers.
– SatPort provides secure and resilient transmission stations and gateway infrastructure for low Earth orbit ( LEO ), medium Earth orbit ( MEO ), and geosynchronous orbit ( GEO ) constellations.
This acquisition follows a custom construction agreement reached between SatPort Infrastructure and Telesat. Following that, both parties will jointly expand the global ground network of Telesat Lightspeed; EQT will also continue to support the long-term construction of the SatPort Infrastructure network to meet the growing needs of satellite operators.
Stockholm, November 3, 2026 / PRNewswire / — EQT Infrastructure VI (“EQT Infrastructure”) and SatPort Infrastructure (“SatPort”) announce that SatPort has completed the acquisition of the infrastructure business for communication and IT service provider Speedcast's transmission stations, thereby expanding its neutral operator platform for satellite ground infrastructure globally.
The demand for satellite services is growing, and it is expected that global revenue will reach $145 billion by 2035. This growth will be supported by an increase in the deployment of low Earth orbit satellites. Such constellations can provide low-cost, high-throughput, and secure connections to meet the needs of consumers, businesses, and governments, and they are playing an increasingly important role in global communications. Each constellation requires a global ground station network, also known as a transmission station, which is used to deploy antennas and other physical infrastructure to enable data transmission between the Earth and satellites in orbit. As satellite networks expand, operators are increasingly seeking independent infrastructure partners to provide these capabilities on a large scale.
SatPort was established by EQT Infrastructure with the aim of providing secure, resilient, and strategically located critical ground infrastructure for satellite constellations. SatPort indicates that the company combines its deep operational expertise with long-term capital support and related capabilities to fund, develop, and expand critical infrastructure on a global scale. The acquisition of the Speedcast ground infrastructure network will further enhance SatPort's service capabilities for customers worldwide. The business acquired from Speedcast includes 12 transmission stations distributed across 11 countries and five continents. In addition, over 100 experienced professionals will join SatPort, while Speedcast will continue to be a customer under a new long-term infrastructure services agreement.
This acquisition is based on the global custom construction agreement signed by SatPort and Telesat in September 2026. According to that agreement, SatPort will develop, construct, and manage the launch sites for Telesat Lightspeed. Telesat Lightspeed is a low Earth orbit constellation targeting corporate and government customers. SatPort indicates that with the completion of this acquisition, the company has now become a fully operational, globally neutral operator platform for satellite operators, governments, and enterprises, possessing both an operational network of transmission sites and the capability to deploy new sites for global operators.
EQT Infrastructure Partner Carl Sj and lund state: "The satellite industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation, with rapidly growing constellations creating unprecedented demand for terrestrial infrastructure. Just as we have seen in the areas of towers, fiber optics, and data centers, we believe that the next phase of growth will be supported by independent, specialized infrastructure platforms that can serve multiple customers on a scaled-up basis. Through SatPort, we are building a global leader in this emerging infrastructure category. The acquisition of Speedcast's transmission station business is an important milestone in this process, and we are delighted to support Joe and its team in seizing the significant opportunities ahead."
SatPort CEO Joe Spytek stated: "Through this acquisition, SatPort has established a platform with global networks and operational expertise, capable of providing customized ground infrastructure for operators of any track. With the long-term support of EQT Infrastructure, we are delighted to continue expanding this platform to serve the next generation of satellite operators expanding globally, allowing our customers to focus on their constellation systems while we take care of the ground infrastructure."
EQT indicates that with the completion of this transaction, the expected investment ratio of EQT Infrastructure VI is expected to reach 80% to 85% (including completed and/or signed investments, as well as any announced public offers that apply, after deducting any anticipated syndicate distribution portions).
