Horizon's founder and CEO Yu Kai responded to the controversy over the nominal computing power of intelligent driving chips on Weibo, stating that the industry has "gone to extreme levels" in terms of PPT computing power. He pointed out that NVIDIA's intelligent driving chips are typically rated at twice their actual dense computing power, while some companies in the industry have claimed "equivalent computing power" to be 6 to 7 times that of the actual dense computing power. Yu Kai stated that Horizon will henceforth label both "NV computing power" and "equivalent computing power," and gave an example that the NV computing power of the Horizon Jetson 6P is 560, with an equivalent computing power of 1960.

Yu Kai, the founder of Horizon and also known as CEO, posted on Weibo tonight in response to questions about whether Horizon could launch thousands of TOPS computing power intelligent driving chips, and also mocked the current way in which the intelligent driving chip industry specifies computing power.

Yu Kai stated that intelligent driving chips are a serious matter, but China's technology industry has "gone to extreme levels" in terms of computing power in PPT. He mentioned that those in the chip industry are well aware that the nominal computing power of NVIDIA's intelligent driving chips is calculated as twice the actual dense computing power. For example, if the actual dense computing power of Orin X is 127 TOPS, the nominal computing power is 254 TOPS.

He stated that in order to facilitate customers' comparison, various autonomous driving chip companies basically use the same framework to denote their computing power. However, the industry has now "broken through cosmic scales," with the nominal computing power being exaggerated to 6 to 7 times the actual dense computing power, and this is labeled as "equivalent computing power," which is so confusing that it's hard to keep up.

For this reason, Yu Kai proposed that Horizon products should label two types of computing power in the future: the dense computing power multiplied by 2 is called “NV computing power,” and the other type is called “equivalent computing power,” also known as “boastful computing power.” According to the data provided, the NV computing power of Horizon Journey 6P is 560 TOPS, while the equivalent computing power is 1960 TOPS.

IT Note: TOPS refers to trillions of operations per second. Dense computing power is the peak power of a chip when it does not utilize sparse computing features, while sparse computing power doubles the nominal value by skipping zero-value calculations.

Yu Kai said that in this way, "I easily completed the task assigned to me by the netizens." A netizen replied under his Weibo with a suggestion that for the next press conference, PPT, a small line could be added: "The equivalent computing power is only for competitors to align their products with, not for consumers." Yu Kai replied, "Haha, I adopt this suggestion."
