Granola, known for its meeting recording tools, has today launched a dictation feature, indicating that consumer-grade voice AI applications are converging. Just a few months ago, Wispr, famous for its dictation tools, had just introduced a meeting recording tool.

Granola The current dictation function is running on Mac, and it is similar to other similar tools. Users can press the “Fn” key to start speaking, and the tool will organize and format the voice content, then output the final text. This function can be used across applications; users can use it to take notes, dictate prompts, as well as reply to emails and messages.

The company stated that this feature will also be available on iOS and Windows soon.

The valuations of Granola and Wispr are $1.5 billion and $2 billion respectively. Granola focuses on automation and note-taking related to meetings; whereas Wispr attempts to develop its own models through a research laboratory that is exploring different human-computer interaction interfaces.

This functional integration does not only occur in Granola and Wispr. Other voice startups such as Fireflies, Speechify, and Monologue have also evolved into multi-functional applications with meeting recording and dictation capabilities. Until earlier this year, the industry's mainstream approach was to create applications that focused on a single function and excel at it. But now, these applications are considering how to extract more value from users' voice data.

Meta placed an advertisement for "tracking Instagram followers" for Muse, before subsequently removing it.
Meta's subsidiary, AI, through its agent Muse, once placed advertisements claiming to be able to track who unfollowed one's Instagram account; a spokesperson for Meta confirmed to Business Insider that these advertisements have been removed and no longer appear in the Meta advertising database. The article points out that this practice conflicts with Instagram's long-standing stance of avoiding providing a "who unfollowed me" feature.
