After the financial report of Alphabet Inc (the parent company of Google) was disappointing, U.S. stock index futures fell during early trading in Asia, which once again sparked concerns among markets about companies investing billions of dollars in the field of artificial intelligence ( AI ).
Due to the poor sales performance of Alphabet, the company's stock price plummeted by 10% in after-hours trading. As a result, NASDAQ 100 index futures fell by 0.8%, and S&P 500 index futures declined by 0.3%. Asian stock index futures indicated that market sentiment was relatively cautious before Samsung Electronics (a company closely related to the promotion of AI) released its key financial reports, which serve as a barometer for the chip industry.
Van Eck Associates Corp. The Deputy Head of Investments and Capital Markets based in Sydney, Jamie Hannah, stated: "After the release of its quarterly financial report, Alphabet's stock price fell by 10%, which dragged down U.S. stock index futures. Although the financial report confirmed that the AI craze brought in revenue, it also highlighted the disruptive nature of this technology to traditional profit models. Today, Alphabet has become a barometer of this trend."
However, sentiment in other markets remains strong. Microsoft's stock price rose by 2.8% after the market closed, thanks to its solid cloud business sales; Oracle's stock price also soared by 11% after it released its long-term outlook for free cash flow.
