BIT Asset Management has been approved by FINMA to launch Switzerland's first and Europe's only spot Bitcoin ETF.
The first exchange-traded fund (ETF) established in accordance with Swiss law that directly invests in Bitcoin and is authorized to be open to Swiss retail investors
Zurich, October 22, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- BIT Asset Management AG (referred to as “BIT AM”) is a wholly-owned Swiss asset management subsidiary of BIT ( www.bit.com ). The company announced that the Swiss Financial Markets Supervisory Authority ( FINMA ) has approved Bitcoin Fund ETF (code: BBIT ). According to a FINMA announcement, this is the first exchange-traded fund in Switzerland that directly invests in Bitcoin. Currently, it is also the only spot Bitcoin ETF in Europe.
The fund is expected to start trading on the Swiss Stock Exchange SIX Swiss Exchange in November.
Bitcoin Fund ETF ( BBIT )
Spot Bitcoin ETF is designed to track the price of Bitcoin and can be traded through regular brokerage accounts. It directly holds Bitcoin, rather than through futures or derivatives. This structure has enabled Bitcoin to enter mainstream American investment portfolios; in January 2024, BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust ( IBIT ), along with another 10 spot Bitcoin ETF, were launched in the United States.
At present, most Bitcoin products listed in Europe are exchange-traded products ( ETP ), which are considered debt securities and carry issuer risks. In contrast, Bitcoin Fund ETF is a Swiss collective investment instrument. Its assets are separated from those of the fund management company, providing investors with bankruptcy protection. This fund is open to Swiss retail investors, not limited to qualified investors only.
BIT Group CEO John Ge stated: "Switzerland has become a leading hub in the field of digital assets, boasting a strong financial industry, a clear regulatory framework, and an innovative ecosystem. For BIT Group, Switzerland is therefore a natural choice for our further international expansion. Launching the first Swiss Bitcoin ETF is an important milestone for us and also reflects our long-term commitment to the Swiss market, as well as our efforts to build a bridge between traditional finance and new technologies."
BIT Asset Management CEO Dominik Oggenfuss stated: "Through BBIT, our goal is to create a genuine Swiss Bitcoin ETF – from fund management, custody to listing on SIX Swiss Exchange, everything is based in Switzerland. Investors can directly obtain exposure to Bitcoin through a Swiss investment fund approved by FINMA, while also benefiting from the regulatory oversight and investor protection under Switzerland's mature collective investment framework."
He also stated, "Investors can now access Bitcoin through ordinary Swiss bank accounts and enjoy Swiss fund management, independent custody, as well as daily transparency of their holdings."

Investors should read the fund documents and risk warnings before making an investment. This fund is only permitted to be sold publicly in Switzerland.
