BIT Asset Management has been approved by FINMA to launch Switzerland's first and Europe's only spot Bitcoin ETF.
This is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) established under Swiss law that directly invests in Bitcoin, and it has been approved to be open to Swiss retail investors.
Zurich, October 22, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- BIT Asset Management AG ("BIT AM") announces that the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) has approved the Bitcoin fund ETF (code: BBIT). As confirmed in the FINMA announcement, this is also Switzerland's first exchange-traded fund that directly invests in Bitcoin. Currently, it is the only spot Bitcoin ETF in Europe.
The fund is expected to start trading on the Swiss Stock Exchange ( SIX Swiss Exchange ) in November.
Bitcoin Fund ETF ( BBIT )
Spot Bitcoin ETF is designed to track the price of Bitcoin and can be traded through regular brokerage accounts. It directly holds Bitcoin, rather than futures or derivatives. This structure helped Bitcoin enter mainstream investment portfolios in the United States; in the U.S., BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust ( IBIT ) as well as another 10 spot Bitcoin ETF products were listed in January 2024.
Currently, most Bitcoin products listed in Europe are exchange-traded products ( ETP ), which are considered debt instruments and carry issuer risk. In contrast, Bitcoin Fund ETF is a Swiss collective investment scheme. Its assets are separate from those of the fund management company, and there are independent isolation arrangements for investors. This fund is open to Swiss retail investors, not limited to qualified investors only.
BIT Group CEO John Ge stated: "Switzerland has established itself as a leading hub for digital assets, boasting a strong financial industry, a clear regulatory environment, and an innovative ecosystem. For BIT Group, this makes Switzerland the natural choice for our ongoing international expansion. Launching Switzerland's first Bitcoin ETF is an important milestone for us, reflecting our long-term commitment to the Swiss market and our ambition to connect traditional finance with emerging technologies."
BIT Asset Management CEO Dominik Oggenfuss stated: "Through BBIT, we aim to create a genuine Swiss Bitcoin ETF. From fund management and custody to listing on SIX Swiss Exchange, everything is carried out in Switzerland. Investors can directly access Bitcoin through Swiss investment funds approved by FINMA and benefit from the regulatory oversight and investor protection provided by Switzerland's mature collective investment plan framework."
He also stated, "Investors can now access Bitcoin through regular Swiss bank accounts, while enjoying Swiss fund governance, independent custody, and daily transparent disclosure of their holdings."
