As the nights grow colder, I find myself craving a cup of tea more frequently. And if there is anything that can make a comfortable autumn night even more pleasant, it's a drink that truly remains warm. Thus, Ember has launched the new Mug 3, a latest version of a temperature-controlled smart cup designed to keep your drink at the perfect temperature throughout the entire drinking experience.

As early as 2016, Ember launched this smart cup, aiming to solve a problem that both coffee and tea drinkers are very familiar with: in just a few moments of distraction, the drink has already cooled down by the time you return. Now, the company has brought out the third generation of this cup, which includes several practical improvements.

The biggest change is that you no longer need to open the app to adjust the temperature of your drink. Instead, you can use a button at the bottom of the cup to switch between five preset temperatures, with the initial temperature set at 125 degrees Fahrenheit. Each time you press the button, the temperature increases by 5 degrees, reaching up to a maximum of 145 degrees Fahrenheit. This allows you to conveniently warm your drink a bit more with each press.

To be honest, this is the feature I use the most during my trial period with this cup. In the evening, when I curl up in bed reading or drinking tea, my phone is usually on the other side of the room. Being able to adjust the temperature of my drink without having to get up to find my phone is just a small convenience, but I really enjoy it.

For those users who have encountered issues with connecting or pairing Ember applications in the past, this is also a welcome change.

However, I do have one complaint: the button is located at the bottom of the cup. For a cup filled with hot liquid, this design is a bit strange, and it’s not particularly easy to press. I often have to tilt the cup and press down forcefully for the button to respond. So, although I really like the control functions on the cup itself, I hope that Ember can design the button to be more easily accessible.

If you prefer to use your mobile phone, the Ember app still offers a wealth of customization options. After pairing the cup with your phone via Bluetooth, you can choose from preset modes based on the beverage you are drinking. Ember recommends using 136 degrees Fahrenheit for black coffee, 132 degrees Fahrenheit for green tea, and 142 degrees Fahrenheit for lemonade. You can also create your own temperature presets if you prefer your drink to be hotter or cooler than the recommended settings, which is very convenient.

Mug There are a few other upgrades as well, including a slidable lid designed to help prevent spills. With a single charge, this cup can maintain the drink at the desired temperature for up to three hours. It is also the first cup in the Ember product line that can be placed in the top rack of a dishwasher for easier cleaning. (However, it should not be put in the microwave oven.)

Ember Mug is available in two sizes: the 10-ounce version is priced at $129, and the 14-ounce version is priced at $149.

The smaller cups are available in three color options: black, white, and stainless steel, while the larger sizes offer a choice of eight colors, including sage green, lavender, light blue, salt blue, sandstone, white, black, and matcha green.

In addition to the new cups, Ember has also launched Tumbler 2, which is intended to replace Travel Mug 2 and the initial Tumbler in the product line. This 16-ounce insulated cup features a slimmer and taller design, designed to fit standard car cup holders. It is available only in black and is priced at $179, while Travel Mug 2 will continue to be sold until inventory is depleted.

These products are now available for purchase on the Ember official website, Target, and Amazon.
