IT News on October 14th: Sony China has today launched a wireless microphone ECM-W5 for video creators, which will be available on the market in early November 2026. Pre-orders are open tonight:

  • ECM-W5 Wireless monitoring microphone: 2,799 yuan
  • ECM-W5R Wireless Microphone Receiver: 1,099 yuan
  • ECM-W5T Wireless Microphone Transmitter: 899 yuan

This microphone supports a maximum sampling rate of 96 kHz / 24- bit and bit depth, 32- bit floating-point recording (48 KHz / 32- bit), as well as 32- bit floating-point direct video recording from cameras. The recorded audio can be wirelessly transmitted to compatible Sony cameras, where it can be directly embedded into video files to generate soundtracks simultaneously, eliminating the need for separate audio file management.

This microphone provides triple backup options: internal microphone recording, direct video recording, and separate audio files. Each microphone comes with 64GB of built-in storage space and supports automatic recording upon startup. The recorded files can be exported to a computer via the USB Type -C cable from the charging case or by directly connecting the microphone to the computer.

Users can connect Sony wireless headphones that support LE Audio to the receiver for wireless listening; the ECM-W5 receiver can also pick up audio from the microphone on already connected Sony wireless headphones and record it within the camera. When used with a compatible microphone, it also supports stereo recording with a three-dimensional sense of presence.

In terms of battery life and power supply, the receiver is powered by the camera through the Mi hot shoe interface, while the transmitter has a single charge that can last for about 11 hours, which is sufficient to meet the needs of long-duration creative work.

The wireless microphone receiver ECM-W5R can be paired with a separately purchased wireless microphone transmitter ECM-W5T to meet the needs of one receiver and four transmitters for audio reception.

The wireless microphone transmitter ECM-W5T is also compatible with external microphones, allowing for more flexible audio reception methods.

IBM Collaborates with Siemens to Advance Nanostacked Architecture, Accelerating the Mass Production Process of 3D Transistors
IBM and Siemens announce new research collaboration to advance the nanoscale stacked transistor architecture released by IBM earlier this year. The two parties will combine the semiconductor device innovation capabilities of IBM with Siemens' expertise in EDA, process simulation, lithography optimization, and advanced manufacturing software to develop advanced virtual models. These models will be used for performance modeling, design optimization, and to solve manufacturing challenges before chip production begins. IBM indicates that the nanoscale stacked architecture allows transistors to be vertically stacked and aligned in a staggered manner, enabling more transistors to be packed into the same area; the company previously stated that it is expected to take about five years before the first products based on this technology can be put into production by partners.
