Alexandr Wang said that in the past, he often wondered how Mark Zuckerberg could find the time to write such long WhatsApp messages to him.
Before Wang joined Meta to assist the leader of the company's AI intelligence entity, this founder Scale AI would occasionally seek advice from Zuckerberg. In a Sunday interview with David Senra, Wang said that Zuckerberg's responses were surprisingly detailed.
“I’ll ask him a question on WhatsApp, and then he’ll write these really long replies,” said Wang. “I was very confused at the time. I thought to myself, ‘How does he have the time to write such long replies?’”
Wang is the public representative figure of the Meta AI intelligent entity Muse. He said that later he came to a simple conclusion: Zuckerberg writes at an exceptionally fast pace and is also very meticulous.
“He can write a very long and rigorous reply very quickly,” said Wang. “That’s a truly impressive skill.”
This anecdote allows the outside world to glimpse how Zuckerberg, as the CEO of Meta, manages his time and how he makes decisions at a time when he is attempting to reshape the company around artificial intelligence.

Wang says that Zuckerberg's schedule is extremely tight, and he needs to prioritize his time "mercilessly": "The only way he can do this, while also being a good father, a good partner, and taking care of all the other things, is by prioritizing in such a merciless manner."
Wang said that around 2021 or 2022, after getting to know Zuckerberg through an introduction, it took about a year for the two of them to meet in person for the first time. At that time, they would only communicate about once every six months on average.
However, as Meta revealed shortcomings in the Llama, AI models, and as competition with rivals such as OpenAI and Anthropic intensified, Zuckerberg's involvement also increased accordingly.
Wang said that Zuckerberg called him to ask what the next step should be for Meta, and how the company should think about its own AI strategy.
Their communication quickly went beyond mere consultation. Within just five to six weeks after Zuckerberg took the initiative to contact them for the first time, Meta announced the acquisition of 49% of the shares in Scale AI, and Wang along with several colleagues also switched to Meta.
Thereafter, Wang has become one of the important figures in Meta's reconstruction of AI organization. Meta has attempted to reorganize its AI department around a smaller, more flat team of top researchers.
Wang said that Zuckerberg is willing to seek feedback from well-known entrepreneurs, which is a notable trait in a leader who has been in charge of Meta for over twenty years.
