According to Phoronix, Microsoft has contributed a new kernel driver for the upcoming Linux 7.4 update. This driver has currently entered the - next branch of the IOMMU subsystem and can be used in the Hyper-V's Linux client virtual machines. This semi-virtualization IOMMU driver can be enabled through the HYPERV_PVIOMMU Kconfig option and provides kernel-level DMA protection for the devices allocated to the virtual machines.
IT News on October 11th: According to a report by technology media Phoronix today, Microsoft has contributed a brand-new kernel driver for the upcoming Linux 7.4 release. This driver has currently entered the next branch of the IOMMU subsystem and can be used in the Linux client virtual machines on Hyper-V.

According to the introduction, this semi-virtualized IOMMU driver can be enabled through the HYPERV_PVIOMMU Kconfig configuration option. It allows the Linux clients on Hyper-V to provide kernel-level DMA protection for the devices allocated to virtual machines.
As learned from the original report, this driver is applicable to both Intel VT-d and AMD IOMMU systems. If everything goes well, the official version of Linux 7.4 is expected to be released by the end of December.
