Meanwhile — the first life insurance company approved to operate entirely on Bitcoin — announced that it has raised $37.5 million in new funds from existing investors.
Bain Capital Crypto led this round of financing, with Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, and Morgan Creek Digital also participating. This financing brings the total amount raised by Meanwhile to over $180 million. Sam Altman is also one of its supporters.
The company stated that against the backdrop of broader macroeconomic instability, there has been a surge in demand for Bitcoin life insurance policies in markets outside of the United States, particularly in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. This financing round was completed against this context.
Meanwhile, co-founder and CEO, stated in a declaration: "Wealthy families around the world already hold Bitcoin. What they lack is a regulated way to pass it on."
The brokers approached us because their clients kept making such requests. This round of financing allows us to keep up with their pace.
At the beginning of 2026, Meanwhile launched BTC Life 1-Pay, which is a one-time payment lifetime life insurance product targeted at high-net-worth clients outside of the United States. This is the company's second product line following BTC 10-Pay, which was designed for American taxpayers.
According to BTC Life 1- Pay, the customer pays the premium in one lump sum in Bitcoin and receives a guaranteed death benefit denominated in Bitcoin for the lifetime of the policy. The value of the policy grows in Bitcoin, and after the first year, the policyholder can borrow up to 90% of its value without any repayment schedule or the need to repay the margin.
Policies can be held by individuals, trusts, or companies. Companies say this makes them suitable for use in estate planning and inheritance arrangements.
Meanwhile indicates that since the product's launch, the company has signed agreements with 15 brokers serving affluent families, covering locations such as Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, and Switzerland. The partners include Lioner – a group specializing in insurance, trusts, and family offices with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Zurich – as well as Apeiron Group – a life insurance market platform targeting high-net-worth individuals.
Apeiron Group CEO Justin Man stated: "We are reaching a turning point, where an increasing number of high-net-worth clients are no longer just asking how to hold Bitcoin and digital assets, but how to plan around these assets and ultimately pass on this wealth to the next generation."
Meanwhile indicates that its long-term underwriting net income has exceeded the total amount of last year and is expected to grow to more than twice that of last year by 2026. The company has not disclosed the specific figures.
Bain Capital Crypto Partner Stefan Cohen states: “Meanwhile possesses the full capabilities of a regulated life insurance company, and we build it in the manner of a AI enabled startup. This year’s growth has proven this model, and we are delighted to support them once again.”
The operating entity of the company, Meanwhile Insurance Bitcoin ( Bermuda ) Limited, holds the first Class IILT license granted by the Bermuda Financial Services Commission. After operating in a regulatory sandbox for two years, the company obtained this license in July 2024.
The balance sheet, reserves, and audited financial statements of this insurance company are all denominated in Bitcoin. The Bitcoin held by policyholders is kept by regulated, institutional-level custodians.
