Tesla, the car manufacturer under Elon Musk, has changed its system brand names in Europe from “Full Self - Driving ( Supervised )” to “Assisted Driving”, as German regulatory authorities previously stated that this naming was “somewhat misleading”.

In the United States, this suite is still sold under the brand Full Self - Driving ( Supervised ), and Tesla owners can subscribe for $99 per month.

Tesla is striving to obtain approval across Europe. Due to the soaring fuel costs caused by the war in Iran, electric vehicle sales in Europe have been on the rise this year, and Tesla's sales also show signs of recovering from last year's decline.

The German Federal Transport Ministry ( BMV ) stated in a statement on Tuesday that Tesla's “ FSD ” brand name is “somewhat misleading,” and added, “This is not a system that takes over the entire driving task. Instead, it is a driving assistance system that can support certain driving tasks, such as acceleration, braking, and steering. The driver must always remain attentive.”

Reuters reported that Tesla has been putting pressure on European automotive regulators, especially in the Netherlands, in hopes of getting its systems approved as soon as possible. In some cases, Tesla's "aggressive pressure" prompted regulators to reduce the intensity of safety tests and reviews of the company's technology.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the U.S. auto safety regulator, is also investigating Tesla's vehicle (BJW_KEEP_00001) to determine its safety for drivers in foggy, bright sunlight, or other conditions with limited visibility, and is also investigating whether it led to Tesla drivers violating traffic regulations, some of which resulted in collisions.

In December 2025, a judge in California ruled that Tesla engaged in deceptive practices in the marketing of the Autopilot and FSD systems by falsely implying that these systems were fully autonomous driving systems. Tesla has filed a counterclaim against the California Department of Motor Vehicles in the Los Angeles Superior Court in an attempt to shed the label of "false advertiser." The lawsuit is still ongoing.

In the second-quarter financial report update, Tesla stated that it had 1.48 million "active" FSD subscription users, but did not specify how many of these came from free trials or other incentive measures.

Tesla did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

What happens when a stock is removed from the S&P 500?
When a company is removed from the S&P 500 index, funds that track this index and ETF typically need to sell their shares, which can lead to selling pressure. However, this does not automatically imply that the company has failed in its operations, nor does it guarantee that the stock price will necessarily plummet. The article states that the real direct impact lies more in the change of "who must hold these shares," rather than an immediate change in the company's fundamentals.
