If there are still those who doubt the level of emphasis Meta places on AI, then the company sent a new signal on Wednesday: Meta announced that its Muse assistant has now launched an independent iPad application. This advancement took about 15 years to achieve for Instagram, despite the continuous demand from users.

In contrast, Muse logged into iPad just one month after iPhone went live.

To be fair, considering that Muse has a text-based interface, the requirements for the resolution and format of images and videos are not that high. Therefore, transplanting it to iPad may not be that difficult.

According to estimates by market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, since its launch on iOS and Android on September 8th, the installation count of Muse has exceeded 6.6 million times. The app is now one of dozens of consumer-oriented AI agents, allowing users to connect their accounts to stay up-to-date with emails, meetings, bills, and to complete tasks such as making reservations, ordering groceries, setting goals, and shopping.

In order to implement these functions, Meta has been continuously adding partners to this initiative. These partners will appear in the form of "connectors" within Muse. Users can add them as needed and log in to selectively decide which aspects of their online lives to have AI handle on their behalf.

With the release of version iPad, Meta has also updated this list, adding several new connectors, including those designed for small businesses such as Asana, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, QuickBooks, GitHub, Klaviyo, and Zoom, as well as connectors for Meta advertising accounts. In addition, Meta has also added Notion and Granola.

In addition, Meta recently announced more retail partners, including Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, and Wayfair. These partnerships enable the agent to shop on these retailers' websites and complete transactions on behalf of users. Since this technology is still relatively new, there are sometimes issues with these experiences, as websites may mistakenly identify the agent as a robot and block their access.

On Tuesday, Meta also announced that it is working with industry partners to develop a technical solution to this issue, namely an open standard, which will allow individual AI agents to prove their identity to businesses. This will help businesses distinguish between “good robots” and “bad robots.”
