Edgescan launches Atomic, supporting on-demand autonomous penetration testing

The disadvantages of traditional penetration testing projects relying on scheduling are being compensated for through a new capability.

This new autonomous capability can provide intelligence-driven security testing as needed between planned penetration tests.

Dublin, October 7, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- Today, we announce the launch of Edgescan Atomic. This is an autonomous penetration testing capability built upon the existing security intelligence from AI and Edgescan's proxy-based approaches. Edgescan Atomic can operate on top of Edgescan's existing continuous security platform or as a standalone proxy-based penetration testing solution.

Enterprises need to be confident that they can withstand cyberattacks driven by AI. Edgescan indicates that Atomic is designed to provide the continuous, rapid, and on-demand strong layer of offensive validation that enterprises require in order to quickly assess their security posture.

Edgescan Atomic can run independently, but its effectiveness is significantly enhanced when supported by Edgescan Intelligence. This support includes historical scan data, PTaaS results, false positive data, verified vulnerabilities, asset context, authentication workflows, API information, and historical assessment data. This provides Atomic with a richer starting point when exploring and verifying potential attack paths.

Atomic combines verified security intelligence with proxy-based AI and Edgescan Harness, the latter of which is used to control what AI can and cannot do. Edgescan indicates that Harness will enforce predefined scopes, permissions, approvals, and policies, enabling Atomic to reason and adapt in the same manner as an attacker, while keeping its behavior controllable and auditable. This provides enterprises with a way to use autonomous penetration testing without relinquishing supervision.

Edgescan indicates that Atomic can provide:

  • Brings faster verification for security teams. Teams can immediately initiate independent testing; if target metadata is already available, in-depth evaluations can be conducted based on that. Verification is carried out by a proxy verification team, with human experts intervening when necessary.
  • Provides deeper and less noisy coverage for security operations and application security teams. Atomic is designed to identify vulnerabilities in business logic and access control, such as insecure direct object references ( IDOR ), weak authorization, and ineffective access control, and to verify these findings with evidence before submitting them to analysts, thereby reducing the workload of investigation and triage.
  • Achieve predictable costs while enhancing control. Its licensing model provides a clear testing budget, while Harness restricts the behavior of AI through scope limitations, logging, and policy enforcement.

Edgescan CEO Eoin Keary stated: " Edgescan Atomic has addressed a fundamental limitation of traditional penetration testing: the threat environment driven by AI, as well as the rapid pace of changes in application code. Atomic allows customers to initiate autonomous penetration testing whenever needed, giving them more control, greater flexibility, and faster security validation capabilities."
