IT News on October 2nd: At noon today (October 2nd) Beijing time, Bloomberg cited sources as saying that the Wall Street banking group responsible for arranging financing for Broadcom has begun to raise $60 billion (Note from IT: The current exchange rate is approximately 402.873 billion RMB) in new funds for the financing of AI chips. Companies such as Anthropic will benefit from this.
According to informed sources, the banks involved in the financing are preparing to issue syndicate invitation letters for approximately $42 billion (equivalent to about 282.011 billion yuan at current exchange rates) of Class A senior secured debt.
In addition, $18 billion (approximately 120.862 billion yuan at current exchange rates) of Class B subordinated debt was arranged led by Blackstone Group. Several funds under Blackstone have committed to investing $9 billion (about 60.431 billion yuan at current exchange rates), with the remaining amount planned to be distributed to other investors.
A financing plan of $60 billion (equivalent to approximately 402.873 billion yuan at current exchange rates) has been in the works for several weeks and has also attracted close attention from industry insiders on Wall Street and in Silicon Valley.
Against the backdrop of public opposition to data center construction, the market hopes to discern whether investors are still willing to provide funding for the infrastructure expansion of AI. Broadcom hopes to use this opportunity to increase sales of chips and other data center equipment, competing with NVIDIA; the demand for computing power from companies such as Anthropic and other AI companies is also continuously increasing.
Informed sources revealed in August that if the transaction goes through, companies such as Anthropic will have an easier time obtaining chips and other key AI infrastructure.
AI To date, billions of dollars have been raised for infrastructure construction through borrowing. Although most of the funds have been invested in data centers, there are also an increasing number of transactions financing chips and servers.
In August this year, NVIDIA also announced a collaboration with six major financial institutions, including Blackstone Group, to raise over $500 billion (approximately 3.36 trillion yuan at current exchange rates) for the AI sector. One of the purposes of this funding is to assist customers in financing the purchase of NVIDIA chips.
Blackstone Group's investment in Anthropic also helped to improve the performance of one of its private equity funds targeting wealthy investors.
