S&P 500 index futures rose this morning as the market attempts to rebound from three consecutive days of declines.

Here are five important things that investors need to know before the start of trading days:

1. Closure phase

Wall Street has officially entered the last quarter of the calendar year, but it hasn't entered the last three months of 2026 with much momentum.

The market performances that need attention are as follows:

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell more than 4% in September, ending a five-month consecutive upward trend.
  • The S&P 500 index recorded its third month of decline in the past four months, but the index still ended the third quarter on an upward note.
  • The Nasdaq Composite Index outperformed other indices in September, partly due to Meta achieving the largest single-month increase since 2022.
  • The yields on 10-year and 30-year U.S. Treasury bonds continued to rise, marking the end of the month's trend. The yield on the 10-year bond increased by 4 basis points overnight, reaching its highest level since 2002.
  • Brent crude oil and WTI crude oil rose by more than 14% and 5% respectively, both recording their third consecutive months of increases.

2. Micron

In its fourth fiscal quarter, which ended in August, Micron exceeded Wall Street's expectations for both revenue and earnings per share, and reported that its data center revenue had increased by 11 times year-over-year. The storage chip manufacturer also provided guidance for the current quarter that was better than anticipated.

Despite strong financial reports, the stock fell slightly in pre-market trading. Over the past 12 months, the stock has risen by more than 500%, benefiting from the tight supply of storage brought about by the artificial intelligence boom.

Don’t miss the interview with Micron’s CEO Sanjay Mehrotra at 9 a.m. today on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street. You can watch the live broadcast on CNBC or CNBC.

3. High Position

The chairman of the Minneapolis Federal Reserve, Neel Kashkari, stated last night to the CNBC regarding the Steve Liesman that inflation is "still too high," and while the labor market is "quite good," it is not "exactly excellent."

Despite the personal consumption expenditure ( PCE ) price index in August – which is the inflation indicator favored by the Federal Reserve – falling short of economists' expectations, Kashkari still made the aforementioned comments. This Fed official stated that inflation is "running at around 3%," and regarding the data released on Wednesday, he said, "I don't think today's inflation data really changes my judgment much."

Speaking of the Federal Reserve: The central bank's inspector general stated yesterday that although management errors were discovered during the renovation project at the Federal Reserve headquarters, there was not enough evidence to warrant a criminal investigation. Nevertheless, U.S. President Donald Trump still called for former Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell to resign from the Federal Reserve Board after the report was released.

4. Argon A

Starting from Wednesday, Alphabet, it will launch its most advanced AI model to some of its cybersecurity partners. As CNBC's MacKenzie Sigalos and Samantha Subin have mentioned, this long-awaited release is nearly a year away from Gemini. It will help the company enhance its position in the AI competition.

According to Google's parent company, Argon has set a new record in real-world software engineering tasks and tied for first place in terms of cybersecurity; the company also stated that it has been using this model internally to improve memory optimization in data centers.

Speaking of data centers, Senate Democrats vetoed a bill focusing on energy prices for data centers yesterday, stating that the legislation was not strong enough. Senator Josh Hawley also mentioned that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman refused to attend a hearing before a Senate subcommittee, which discussed the risks of out-of-control artificial intelligence.

5. Double Dose

Lilly stated yesterday that its combined obesity treatment regimen demonstrated better weight loss results in a mid-stage trial than the use of tirzepatide alone, which is the company's best-selling drug. Lilly plans to initiate a phase three trial by the end of this year.

This combination therapy involves the use of Eli Lilly's investigational drug eloralintide in conjunction with a low dose of teleporeotide, which is the active ingredient in Zepbound and Mounjaro. As reported by CNBC's Annika Kim Constantino, these trial results have raised hopes for an alternative treatment option, especially for those patients who have not seen improvement with the currently available GLP-1 products.

Lilly's President of Cardio-Metabolic Health, Ken Custer, stated that this combined approach "may ultimately become a very successful method." Lilly expects to adjust the dosing regimen in the next phase of trials.
