Binance Announces today that eligible overseas Binance Pay users can now make payments at PayPay merchants across Japan using HIVEX ® during their visits to Japan.
This interoperability feature will be available starting from September 30, 2026. Through HIVEX ®, this interconnection enables approximately 48 million eligible Binance Pay users from over 100 countries and regions to shop at millions of merchant locations in Japan. However, merchants that support PayPay will still settle payments in Japanese yen.
This service is aimed at travelers going to Japan, with the goal of expanding Binance Pay's presence in one of the world's most advanced cashless payment markets. It supports transactions in dining, shopping, accommodation, and other travel-related expenses. Binance states that this interoperability reflects their long-term vision of making digital asset payments more convenient for everyday and cross-border transactions, and it also demonstrates how integration with mature local payment networks can connect digital assets with the familiar experience of fiat currency payments.
Binance, Vice President of Payments and Fiat Business, Thomas Gregory stated: "As one of the world's leading tourist destinations, Japan is shaping a future of connected, cashless payments. Our integration with PayPay reflects our shared vision of making payments for travelers to Japan smoother, borderless, and more accessible."
He stated, "This integration reflects the growing convergence between traditional fiat payment systems and digital assets, providing travelers with more payment options. At the same time, it also allows merchants across Japan that support PayPay to better serve international customers."
Expand access through local QR code payment channels
By connecting with mature QR code payment ecosystems, Binance Pay enables digital asset payments while allowing merchants to continue settling in local currencies. In Japan, PayPay brings this capability to one of the world's most advanced cashless markets.
This launch is built upon the extensive QR code payment network of Binance Pay in Asia's major travel corridors. Binance indicates that these deployments have collectively expanded Binance Pay's coverage in key tourism markets in the region, and support travelers to conduct smoother cross-border consumption.
