Microsoft's Copilot business leader, Jacob Andreou, stated that the company's greatest concern regarding AI risks is not the technology itself, but rather that the benefits of AI have not been widely disseminated, instead concentrating in the hands of a few companies. He said that Microsoft regards "dissemination" as a core part of its AI strategy, hoping to make AI more prevalent among individuals, enterprises, and within the broader economy.

As the tech industry debates the existential risks associated with artificial intelligence, a Microsoft Copilot executive stated that his greatest concern is to ensure that the benefits of this technology are widely distributed, rather than concentrated in the hands of a few companies.

Microsoft Executive Vice President Jacob Andreou stated in an interview with Business Insider that the risk Microsoft spends the most time contemplating is what the company refers to as "diffusion" ( diffusion ), which means allowing AI to be widely used by individuals and enterprises throughout the economy.

Andreou said, "How can we transform raw intelligence into something that truly benefits people's personal lives, as well as all those who make up these companies and the broader economy? If we fail to achieve such dissemination, I am indeed concerned about what the state of value and the economy will be like—whether it will be concentrated in the hands of just a few companies."

Recently, the debate surrounding the long-term impacts of AI has become increasingly intense. Optimists believe that this technology could significantly boost productivity and give rise to new industries; critics, however, warn that companies that control the most advanced models may reap excessive economic benefits, exacerbate inequality, concentrate corporate power, and even lead to more serious consequences.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also mentioned this debate in a memo recently seen by Business Insider.

In its public statements on AI, Microsoft is increasingly focusing on "diffusion" as a core theme. President Brad Smith believes that to win in the AI competition, it is not only necessary to develop the most advanced models but also to ensure that these models are widely adopted. The company recently released the report titled "Global AI diffusion".

This information is also related to Microsoft's business interests as well as its continuously evolving Copilot AI tools.

Unlike the AI laboratory, which focuses primarily on selling cutting-edge models, Microsoft's revenue comes from cloud services, office software, developer tools, and other enterprise applications. The more individuals and companies adopt AI in these products, the more beneficial it is for Microsoft.

Microsoft has recently also repositioned Copilot as a flagship "super app," integrating chat, Cowork, coding, and its own "Autopilot" AI proxy capabilities to serve both consumer and business users.

Andreou said, "Of course we believe that this technology is meant to empower people. Such dissemination is not only crucial in many aspects for us, but it is also actually the way in which the entire economy benefits from it."
