Beachwood, Ohio, September 25, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- Saber Healthcare Group announces a security incident that may affect the information of some individuals.
Saber indicates that on July 27, 2026, the company observed service interruptions in some internal and external computer systems. Upon discovery, Saber immediately took measures to protect and isolate the systems, and an investigation was initiated with the assistance of external cybersecurity experts.
An investigation determined that external personnel entered the corporate computer network of Saber; on July 27, 2026, they encrypted a small number of files, which was also the cause of the service interruption. Saber stated that its electronic medical record system is hosted and maintained by another independent external supplier, and that supplier's system was not affected by this incident. Facilities under Saber accessed the system over the network, and there is no evidence that the medical record database was accessed, modified, or copied. The company claimed that, with the help of unaffected backup copies, they were able to restore the inaccessible files within 24 to 48 hours after discovering the interruption, and no data was lost.
Saber has reviewed the potentially affected files to determine what information they contain. The type of information varies from person to person, but may include names, as well as one or more of the following: date of birth, driver's license/state-issued identification number, health insurance information, medical information, financial account information, passport number, and/or social security number.
The company stated that on August 19, 2026, it completed the relevant reviews and began to search for address information in order to notify the individuals directly via mail. Out of caution, the company is offering free credit monitoring and identity protection services to these individuals.
In response to this incident, Saber stated that immediate measures were taken to protect the system, and third-party experts were hired to assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation and response. The company has also implemented additional security measures to further reduce the risk of similar incidents occurring in the future. Saber reported that no ongoing unauthorized activities have been detected since the implementation of these additional measures.
