The newly launched AI assistant has made it to the top of the free app charts this week, further intensifying the competition in the consumer-grade AI market. Although ChatGPT remains the most representative product for the general public, with multiple tech companies focusing on personal AI assistants, the pressure on OpenAI is increasing.

Muse downloads are growing rapidly

It is reported that Muse can perform operations such as browsing, clicking, typing, and conversing on the internet to assist users in completing specific tasks. Meta also announced at this week's Connect conference that they will integrate Muse into smart glasses and develop a new hardware product named Muse Charm.

Data from market research firm Sensor Tower shows that within 13 days of the launch of Muse, the number of downloads on mobile devices exceeded 2.5 million times. The firm believes that the attractiveness of Muse mainly lies in its low entry barrier, an interface similar to that of instant messaging apps, and a more straightforward process for task handling.

Meta possesses stronger distribution capabilities

The report suggests that the popularity of Muse is not merely due to a new product attracting attention, but also reflects the approach taken by Meta in the consumer-grade AI sector. Compared to OpenAI, Meta has larger existing traffic entry points.

Currently, the total number of daily active users for Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp under Meta has exceeded 3 billion. At the same time, the advertising business has provided a continuous funding base of AI for computing power and product promotion. The hot sales of smart glasses have also provided Meta with an additional terminal entry point that can support AI assistants.

In contrast, although OpenAI still maintains a leading position in terms of user activity, reports mention that ChatGPT has reached 1 billion weekly active users this year. However, in the new round of competition for personal AI assistants, the initial advantage alone is no longer sufficient to create a significant barrier.

OpenAI or will soon launch a response product

In addition to Meta, there have been several new assistant products on the market recently, including Instinct launched by startups, as well as similar tools from other large technology companies. Analysts believe that each company is seeking a more stable and easier-to-commercialize way of using AI.

The Information Previous reports have stated that OpenAI is developing features to compete with such new assistant applications. OpenAI The annual developer conference will be held next week, and the market is also watching to see if they will take this opportunity to release a product that directly competes with Muse.

Some analyses suggest that the current competitive focus of AI assistant products is no longer just on the ability to answer questions, but also includes user retention, frequency of use, and task execution efficiency. In terms of these indicators, ChatGPT is still in a leading position at present, but new initiatives from Meta are accelerating the pace of change in the market.
