Google is testing a new feature that allows Gemini to call merchants on behalf of users, named “Call for Me”. This feature is currently available to 11 users in Pixel in the United States, and it requires subscription to Gemini as well as the use of the beta version of the Google Phone application.

Can handle reservations and inquiries.

Gemini can undertake a variety of telephone tasks, including checking if products are in stock, booking restaurants, rescheduling appointments, or reserving products in advance. Google indicates that users can follow the conversation in real-time and also take over at any time.

Dial using a personal number

This feature will directly use the user's own phone number to make calls. Google states that this is done to make the calls sound more natural and to facilitate merchants in identifying the source of the calls. This feature is currently still in the experimental stage.

Years of continuous testing

Google has been trying automated dialing technology for many years. Previously, it demonstrated Google Assistant booking haircuts on behalf of users and adding pauses during calls. Last year, Google also launched “Ask for Me”, allowing Gemini to inquire about prices or learn about services from businesses on behalf of users.
