According to CoinMeta, as reported by Axios, several Democratic members of Congress and their assistants have said that they have recently received a large number of calls and emails urging them not to support Jeffries (Hakeem Jeffries) as the Speaker of the House. Some offices received over 500 opposing calls within two days. Opponents criticize him for not being sufficiently resistant to the Trump administration, for having close ties with pro-Israel organizations, and are advocating for Progressive Congressman Raskin (Jamie Raskin) to take his place. A related petition has gathered nearly 900,000 signatures. However, Jeffries remains the top candidate for Speaker, and no one within the party has explicitly stated a willingness to challenge him. The Democratic leadership election is scheduled to take place on November 18th and 19th, and the new Congress will vote to elect the Speaker on January 3rd of next year.
