According to CoinMeta, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported that in October 2026, the grain price index averaged 116.8 points, down 5.5 points (4.5%) from September and 13.1 points (12.6%) from October 2025. World wheat prices fell after four consecutive months of increase, mainly reflecting weak international demand and improved production prospects, especially in Argentina. Expectations of a relaxation of export transportation restrictions in the Black Sea region further increased downward pressure on prices, but ongoing logistical disruptions in the Black Sea limited the extent of the decline. International corn prices also saw a pullback after reaching their highest level in three years in September, due to price pressures from the U.S. harvest season, expectations of ample supply from major South American exporting countries, and renewed prospects for a easing of tensions in the Black Sea region. Regarding other coarse grains, barley and sorghum prices declined in tandem with wheat and corn, with favorable crop prospects in Australia further pressing down on barley prices. In contrast, in October 2026, the FAO rice price index rose by 1.6%. Delayed harvests in some rice-exporting countries, coupled with adverse weather and rising costs, contributed to higher rice prices.
