According to CoinMeta, the Nikkei 225 index has fallen below the much-anticipated 60,000 mark, with the decline now expanding to 6.5%. As investors liquidate their positions in AI-related trades, the index still faces the risk of further declines. Since the end of June, the Nikkei index has seen a significant drop and is currently at risk of falling 20% from its high points, entering a "technical bear market." The performance gap between the Nikkei index, which is dominated by tech stocks, and the broader TOPIX index has widened to its largest level in decades. The decline in U.S. chip stocks has intensified after the mid-term elections, with markets speculating that the Democratic Party may impose restrictions on the AI industry, leading investors to sell off tech stocks.
