South Korea plans to defer crypto tax until 2029

According to CoinMeta, the South Korean government plans to postpone its 22% crypto tax until 2029, marking the fourth delay in the implementation of this tax. Finance Minister Lee Hong-ri announced this proposal, stating that the government will negotiate with legislators to push back the originally scheduled date for implementation, which was set for January 2027. This tax will impose a 22% levy on annual crypto earnings exceeding 2.5 million Korean won (about $1,860), including a 20% income tax and a 2% local tax. The government pointed out that 2029 coincides with the time when information exchange with the United States under the crypto asset reporting framework will begin, and implementing the tax ahead of time could put the domestic market at a disadvantage compared to overseas markets.
