RBA Vice Governor Hawzer: Public trust in the central bank remains strong
2026-11-05 15:06:39
According to CoinMeta, RBA Vice Governor Lowe stated that despite the central bank's previous significant interest rate hikes to curb high inflation, public trust in the RBA remains stable, which came as a surprise to him. He noted that the overall trust indicator has remained relatively stable over the past 18 months and has even seen a slight increase. This week, the RBA implemented its fifth interest rate hike since 2026, raising the cash rate to 4.85%, a new high in 18 years, a move that may further increase the burden on mortgage holders. At the same time, consumers are also facing multiple pressures such as rising fuel prices, increased living costs, and a rising unemployment rate. Lowe reminded, "These reserves of trust may provide a temporary buffer during times of poor economic performance, but they will eventually be exhausted."
