RBA Vice Governor Hawzer: Despite the pain of interest rate hikes, public trust remains strong
2026-11-05 15:03:18
According to CoinMeta, RBA Vice Governor Lowe stated that despite the central bank's previous significant interest rate hikes to curb persistent and stubborn high inflation, public trust in the central bank remains stable, which surprised him. He noted that the overall trust indicator has remained largely stable over the past 18 months and has even seen a slight increase. Lowe reminded that although trust reserves can act as a buffer during poor economic performance, there will eventually come a day when they are exhausted. This week, the RBA implemented its fifth interest rate hike since 2026, raising the cash rate to 4.85%, a new high in 18 years, a move that may further increase the burden on mortgage holders.
