According to CoinMeta, Silicon Valley venture capital firm a16z announced that it will rename its crypto funds a16z and crypto to a16z and frontier, respectively. The scope of investment will expand from blockchain to include AI, robotics, new computing devices, and other cutting-edge technologies, with continued leadership by Chris Dixon. Dixon emphasized that this adjustment does not mean exiting the crypto industry; the fund will still invest in crypto and related enterprises. In a podcast during the same period, a16z co-founders Marc Andreessen, Ben Horowitz, and Dixon stated that AI, open-source models, and new digital networks may give rise to new business models. Dixon believes that stablecoins and blockchain can provide the infrastructure for future payments, transactions, and collaboration between AI and agent.
