Bitcoin Core adjusts its policy for disclosing security vulnerabilities
2026-10-23 13:31:36
According to CoinMeta, as reported by Cointelegraph, the Bitcoin core team has adjusted its security vulnerability disclosure policy. They will provide fixes for "easily discoverable" vulnerabilities as soon as possible in all major versions that are still being maintained, and will also release security announcements accordingly, including those vulnerabilities that can be identified simply through hints from large language models. Developer Antoine Poinsot stated that such vulnerabilities are likely to be rediscovered, and keeping them confidential for a long time has limited effect; instead, it delays the release of fixed versions. Other vulnerabilities will still be disclosed based on their severity: low-risk vulnerabilities will be disclosed two weeks after the release of the major version with the fix, medium to high-risk vulnerabilities will be disclosed two weeks after the last affected version stops being maintained, and critical vulnerabilities may be subject to special handling procedures.
