Arc Browser Announces Shutdown: Millions of Weekly Active Users, Yet No Future to Speak Of
2026-10-23 12:21:05
According to CoinMeta, Arc, a browser company, has announced that it will completely cease the operation of Arc versions macOS and Windows on December 22, 2026, and new user registration has already been closed. Starting from November 23, the AI function on mobile devices, as well as login and tab synchronization, will also be gradually discontinued. The team will now fully transition to the AI browser. Arc was launched in 2022 and was initially only available for Mac users through invitations; it became fully accessible in 2023 and gradually rolled out to Windows and mobile platforms in 2024. Despite having over 1 million active users per week, Arc failed to achieve widespread adoption. The founder, Josh Miller, admitted in 2025 that Arc was too complex for ordinary users, with a high learning curve. The team decided to stop maintaining it, citing the need for continuous investment in browser security in the AI era, and that engineering and security resources must be focused on Dia.
