AI Concerns Trigger Hedging Buying, Japanese Government Bond Yields Fall Across the Board

According to CoinMeta, on Friday, Japanese government bond yields fell across the board, with the benchmark 10-year bond yield dropping by 9 basis points to 2.79%, and the 20-year bond yield falling by 5.5 basis points. Lu Zhengyan, a senior fixed-income strategist at Tohoku Investment Management Company based in Tokyo, stated that concerns related to artificial intelligence triggered selling in the stock market, which boosted demand for safe-haven assets. The rise in U.S. Treasury bond prices also supported the strength of the Japanese bond market. He noted that the bond market exhibited the expected characteristics, with longer-duration bonds providing diversification benefits, and investors were able to earn holding yields during this period. Although data showed that Japan's key inflation indicators rose above the Bank of Japan's target level of 2% for the first time this year, supporting market expectations of a rate hike by the BOJ in December, the Japanese bond market still rose on Friday. Lu Zhengyan mentioned that as the market shifted its focus to economic growth risks and concerns related to artificial intelligence, the importance of inflation data temporarily diminished.
