According to CoinMeta, Coinbase Ireland has agreed to pay a fine of 3.25 million euros for its failure to protect customer funds and supervise outsourcing controls, with the sanctions awaiting approval from the High Court. The Central Bank of Ireland announced this settlement on October 22, which relates to violations of electronic currency regulations between November 1, 2020, and August 19, 2025. Coinbase Ireland has accepted the condemnation and acknowledged the violations. Under the agreed terms, the bank has reduced the originally scheduled fine of 4.6466 million euros by 30% to 3.2526 million euros. The sanctions will take effect after confirmation by the High Court. Reports indicate that since July 2022, there have been errors in the system responsible for calculating daily protection requirements and rebalancing funds, resulting in a shortage of funds in accounts for at least 18 months. In 2023, the largest daily shortfall reached 3.4 million euros, and in 2024, it reached 5.2 million euros. Coinbase stated that no customers lost their funds or were unable to access their funds.
