According to CoinMeta, and as reported by The Daily Mail, the "butlers" behind Qian Zhimin, the main culprit in the large-scale illegal public deposit absorption case of Lantian Greitai, hok, seng, and ling, have paid a total of 5.6 million pounds sterling (approximately 5,603,305 pounds including confiscated assets and interest) to the British government. The majority of this amount consists of encrypted assets that were seized at the time of their arrest. This Malaysian man was previously sentenced to 4 years and 11 months in prison for money laundering. Meanwhile, a fierce legal battle has been waged at the London High Court over the final disposition of 61,000 bitcoins seized by the British police. Nearly 130,000 victim investors' proxy lawyers oppose the British Treasury's attempt to retain the appreciation gains from these bitcoins. The judge ruled that Chinese law applies to this claim case, requiring victims to prove that they have legal ownership of the bitcoins involved under current Chinese legislation, which increases the difficulty of making claims. If they cannot prove it, a significant portion of this substantial appreciated asset may legally belong to the British government.
