Edward Robinson: After AI leads to increased productivity, central banks may be able to relax monetary policy

According to CoinMeta, Edward Robinson, the Chief Economist of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, stated on October 20th that once artificial intelligence brings about widespread productivity improvements, central banks may be able to relax monetary policy. Currently, the AI investment boom is driving demand, and policies should remain restrictive. He pointed out that AI related investments drive economic growth, but this technology has not yet brought significant productivity improvements to the broader economy. The Monetary Authority of Singapore tightened monetary policy in April and July 2026, and in October, it maintained its policy unchanged, warning that if the AI boom drives up unit labor costs, domestic inflation may remain high.
