According to CoinMeta, as reported by Cointelegraph, there are again calls for a postponement of the crypto tax in South Korea, with the related legislation planned to be delayed until 2029. Senior officials from the South Korean finance department plan to hold consultations with major cryptocurrency exchanges on Tuesday, with participants including representatives from Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone, DigitalX, Gopax, and the Digital Asset Exchange Alliance (DAXA). Yoo Young - jun, the director of the Digital Finance Policy Bureau at the Financial Services Commission of South Korea, will attend the meeting. South Korea has postponed the crypto tax three times, with the most recent delay setting the implementation date for 2027. Exchanges have stated that the rules applicable to different types of transactions have not yet been determined, and there is limited time to prepare the infrastructure, so the industry generally supports continuing to postpone the taxation. South Korean Democratic Party members Park Min - gyu recently proposed a bill to set the tax collection start date as January 1st of the year following South Korea's initiation of data sharing under the OECD's Crypto Assets Reporting Framework (CARF). If the first data exchange occurs in 2027, taxation will begin in 2029.
