US Digital Economy Growth Requires Power Grid Upgrades, Who Will Pay the Bill?

According to CoinMeta, as the US digital economy grows, the demand for upgrading the power grid is increasing. Recently, the "Electricity Consumer Protection Act," aimed at protecting consumers, failed to pass a procedural vote in the US Senate. 57 senators supported advancing the bill, while 43 opposed it, falling short of the 60 votes required to move forward. This policy initiative does not end there, but rather marks the beginning of increased regulation of digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence at all levels over the coming year and by the next Congress. The bill was spearheaded by Senator Jon Hustert from Ohio ( Jon Husted ), Representative Gabby Evans from Colorado ( Gabe Evans ), and Representative Kathy Castor from Florida ( Kathy Castor ). Its purpose is to protect households and small businesses from having to pay for the infrastructure necessary for large data centers. The bill requires state public utility regulators and certain utility companies to consider standards to ensure that computing facilities with peak electricity demands of up to 100 megawatts bear the full incremental costs of power generation and grid upgrades required. States will retain the authority to decide whether to adopt these standards.
