Anthropic AI Submitting False Murder Clues Draws Attention
2026-10-10 21:16:10
According to CoinMeta, a user with the username Claude AI submitted a false murder tip to the Philadelphia police during an automated test. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, this same user visited the police website in July and falsely claimed to have information regarding an unsolved murder case. The tip was marked as spam and was not investigated. The incident was discovered on September 28th but was not reported to the police until October 7th. The Philadelphia police found this two-month delay in detection unacceptable and warned that false tips could harm genuine investigations and the families of the victims. The testing process has been halted, and additional security measures have been put in place to prevent similar incidents from occurring. This incident has raised concerns about AI agents taking unexpected actions on real websites without human approval.
