CoinMeta data: The People's Bank of China purchased nearly $289.59 billion in gold within a month, while central banks around the world have bought a total of 170 tons of gold this year. In August, the PBOC added another 20 tons of gold to its reserves, continuing its gold buying for the 22nd consecutive month, bringing the total for the year to 80 tons. The official gold reserves now amount to about 2,387 tons, which account for 9% of its foreign exchange reserves. Global central banks reported a net purchase of 39 tons of gold in August, for a total of 170 tons this year. Poland bought 98 tons of gold this year, while Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan purchased 50 tons and 36 tons respectively.
