U.S. electricity demand hits a record high due to the AI craze

CoinMeta data: According to predictions by the U.S. Energy Information Administration ( EIA ), electricity consumption in the United States is expected to reach record highs in 2026 and 2027, partly due to the growing demand from artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency data centers. It is estimated that electricity demand will rise from 419.5 billion kilowatt-hours in 2025 to 435.6 billion kilowatt-hours by 2027. By 2027, the share of electricity generated from renewable sources is expected to reach 27%, while the share of coal will drop to 15%.
