According to CoinMeta, Wu said that he learned from Dutch police reports that two men were arrested for allegedly using fake EURC tokens to scam Rolex watch sellers. In August 2025, several sellers agreed with buyers through the second-hand trading platform Marktplaats to be paid in EURC, but what they received were actually worthless counterfeit tokens that resembled the real ones in appearance. One seller delivered the watches after receiving the transfer, only to realize he had been scammed when he tried to exchange them for euros. On September 9, the police arrested two suspects, aged 24 and 45 respectively, and are still investigating whether they are involved in other cryptocurrency scams.
