Patreon CEO Jon Kant stated that the company will lay off approximately 20% of its workforce and simultaneously restructure its organization. Affected employees will receive at least 16 weeks of severance pay, plus an additional week based on length of service, health insurance coverage until the end of the year, and a $1,500 equipment allowance.

AI was not the direct cause of the layoffs.

In an internal memo, Kant stated that AI has transformed the tech industry and changed the way products are developed and communicated. However, he emphasized that the company did not make this adjustment because it believes AI can replace employees.

The organization will be further flattened.

Patreon stated that the team will be reconfigured around core priorities, and management layers will be streamlined. The company said this adjustment is to better align operations with current business needs.

At the same time, strengthen anti-AI scraping measures.

Last week, Patreon also announced a partnership with Cloudflare to directly block bots used to train AI models from accessing creator content. The company stated that as AI scraping methods become more sophisticated, such protections need to be upgraded accordingly.
