Coinbase is integrating its AI-powered payment, trading, and developer tools into a unified product suite. According to a company announcement on Thursday, Coinbase Business users will be able to receive payments initiated by the AI agent starting this week, settled via the Coinbase-incubated x402 protocol and powered by Coinbase Payments.
Merchants can accept USDC payments.
This update means that businesses can allow AI agents to complete payments using USDC without having to build additional payment processing steps. Coinbase believes that the AI agent economy currently lacks a complete transaction loop: one end is an agent with wallets and payment capabilities, and the other end is a merchant system that can recognize and accept agent payments.
Sid Coelho-Prabhu, head of Coinbase Business, stated that in traditional shopping scenarios, consumers rely on bank cards and bank accounts to complete payments, while merchants complete transactions through acquiring and settlement systems. Coinbase now hopes to bring a similar process to online business environments geared towards AI agents.
Users can view agent orders in real time.
In addition to merchant payment processing, Coinbase is also adding an agent interface for regular trading users. The company says users can now view a real-time list of agent orders, including currently open and active orders, along with their status, price, and quantity, allowing for manual monitoring of the agent's execution process.
According to Coinbase, users can issue trading instructions to the broker using natural language, such as buying ETH when it drops by 5% or selling after the order is filled. The broker can then automatically execute the operation based on preset conditions and real-time market data.
Developers add x402 SDK
On the developer side, Coinbase Developer Platform has launched a new x402 SDK. Developers can integrate x402 payments with APIs, MCP servers, or web services; Coinbase claims this integration can be completed in just three lines of code.

This means Coinbase is attempting to simultaneously reach three types of participants: merchants receiving payments, transaction users using agents, and developers building services for agents. Its goal is to integrate stablecoin payments, agent execution, and API development into a unified ecosystem, lowering the barrier to entry for AI agents to complete payments and transactions online.
