Cryptocurrency tokens related to the Donald Trump family tumbled significantly after Democrats gained control of Congress, while major cryptocurrencies remained strong.
According to Coin Bureau data, the TRUMP meme coin has fallen by 19% within 24 hours to $1.25, which is about 98% lower than its peak of $73.43 in January 2025. MELANIA has fallen by 14% to $0.065, a decrease of 99.5% from its high point; World Liberty Financial's WLFI has fallen by 4% to $0.048.
Reuters estimates that since Trump returned to the White House, the Trump family has made at least $2.3 billion through four crypto-related businesses, while investors have suffered losses of a similar amount. Democrats have stated that once they take control of Congress next January, they plan to investigate these businesses.
Bitwise, the Chief Investment Officer, stated that this divergence indicates that the crypto market is maturing, as tokens sensitive to elections and mining companies related to artificial intelligence have declined, while Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana have remained stable.
