Yole Group reports that Hesai leads the global robotaxi lidar market with a 62% share, and the robotaxi industry is moving towards scale-up.
Palo Alto, California, October 29th / PRNewswire / -- Hesai Group (Nasdaq: HSAI; HKEX: 2525) ("Hesai" or "the Company") announced today that Yole Group has been rated as a global leading robotaxi lidar supplier in its Robotaxi 2026 report. Hesai stated that in 2025, its market share in the global robotaxi lidar market was 62%, exceeding the total of all other suppliers. This result strengthens Hesai's leading position in this market, which is now entering a new phase, as robotaxi projects expand to larger fleet operations. The last report from Yole Group indicated a Hesai lidar market share of 61%.
According to the Yole report, the lidar technology from Hesai has been adopted by globally leading L4 level robotaxi and autonomous driving projects, including Baidu Apollo Go, Pony.ai, Waymo, Didi, Motional, Aurora, and KargoBot. The report indicates that this widespread deployment reflects an increasing adoption of lidar in various robotaxi platforms and operating environments, rather than relying on a single customer or project.
This year's report studies robotaxi and its supporting technologies in a thematic manner. Yole Group predicts that the global scale of robotaxi fleets will grow from about 10,000 units in 2025 to 331,000 units by 2031. As operators expand their fleet sizes, they will need lidars that can provide precise perception in complex environments, possess automotive-grade quality, and be reliably supplied on a large scale.
Li Yifan, Co-Founder and CEO of Hesai, stated: "We are proud to be recognized by Yole Group as a leader in lidar in the Robotaxi 2026 report. robotaxi is entering an important new phase, with operators increasingly focusing on expanding deployment scales and providing reliable autonomous driving experiences in real-world environments, which places higher demands on every component of the vehicles. Our continued market leadership reflects the trust we have earned over the years through close collaboration with robotaxi developers, as well as our ability to deliver on a large scale."
With the expansion of the robotaxi market, Hesai is also advancing its next-generation lidar platform to support autonomous driving in the next phase. At the core of this plan is the upgraded ETX, which is Hesai's flagship lidar platform for autonomous driving at the L3 level and above. ETX is equipped with Hesai's self-developed Picasso SPAD - SoC, which combines RGB perception with time-of-flight ranging at the chip level, enabling it to capture both the geometric information and color information of the surrounding environment with precisely aligned point clouds. ETX can be configured with up to 4,320 channels and has a maximum detection range of 600 meters, aiming to provide the system with a more detailed view of distant targets and complex driving scenarios. ETX equipped with Picasso is currently undergoing customer validation and has progressed to discussions with leading robotaxi operators and global automakers such as RFI and RFQ, paving the way for the next generation of high-performance perception systems.
Hesai continues to expand its manufacturing capacity to support the expected growth in autonomous driving travel. As of June 2026, the company has delivered over 3.5 million lidars in total. Hesai is advancing the construction of its new manufacturing plant in Bangkok, Thailand, with production expected to begin in 2027; meanwhile, the company's highly automated production lines, where core processes are 100% automated, currently produce one lidar every 8 seconds. Combined with the development of next-generation products, these manufacturing investments enable Hesai to provide support as automobile manufacturers and autonomous driving customers move towards larger-scale deployments of their projects.
