Meta Platforms is seeking to raise up to $95 billion through equity financing to provide financial support for its artificial intelligence ( AI ) deployment.
Meta announced on Monday that it plans to issue approximately $35 billion in common stock and preferred stock, while also launching an in-market stock issuance program ( ATM ) with a maximum scale of about $60 billion, which will allow the company to sell shares from time to time depending on market conditions. This in-market issuance program will use the Class C non-voting stock to be issued.
In a public offering of approximately $35 billion, Meta plans to issue about $22.5 billion in Class A common stock through forward sale agreements, and about $12.5 billion in Series A mandatory convertible preferred stock. Additional information indicates that NVIDIA, AMD, and Broadcom are interested in purchasing up to $5 billion worth of Meta shares.
This financing comes at a time when Meta is increasing its investment in AI.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg has recently made significant adjustments to the company's AI business, expanding the team through active recruitment and launching new products. At the same time, he has committed to investing tens of billions of dollars in building the infrastructure necessary to support the operation of the AI model.
At the product level, Meta has launched a personal AI intelligent entity Muse, as well as a AI model Muse Wonder. Company management states that Muse Wonder performs comparable to OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude in tasks such as programming.
On the market front, Meta's stock price recovered some of its morning losses during pre-market trading in New York on Monday, closing at $650, an increase of 1.2%. As of last Friday's close, the stock had seen a year-to-date decline of 2.7%.
