Well-known venture capital investor and Bitcoin billionaire supporter Tim Draper ( Tim Draper ) praised the mysterious Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto ( Satoshi Nakamoto ), calling him for daring to challenge the fundamental principles of global finance with an optimistic spirit.
Draper made the above remarks after being ranked 76th in Forbes' recently released list of "The 250 Most Optimistic Americans."
In a post celebrating this honor, this billionaire investor stated that optimism is the driving force behind technological progress. Draper listed several entrepreneurs who turned what seemed to be impossible business ideas into reality.
"Pessimists may be 'right' in the short term, but it is the optimists who are the driving force behind all progress. Think about how much progress we have already made," Draper wrote on X.
The few examples he cited include Hotmail co-founders Sabir Bhatia ( Sabeer Bhatia ) and Jack Smith ( Jack Smith ), who played a significant role in bringing free email to the public. Next are Skype founders Nicholas Zennstrom ( Niklas Zennstr öm) and Janus Friis ( Janus Friis ), who were pioneers of internet calling.
Draper also praised Tesla and the head of SpaceX, Elon Musk ( Elon Musk ), for continuing to embrace electric vehicles and privatized space travel despite doubts from many people.
Satoshi Nakamoto's Optimism
If Draper is referring to this, it might be in regards to Satoshi Nakamoto's courage to challenge the financial status quo and bring about a completely new way of value transfer and storage.
As early as October 2008, when Satoshi Nakamoto first released the Bitcoin white paper, financial transactions mainly relied on trusted third parties such as banks and payment service providers.
Bitcoin introduced a new concept: a decentralized peer-to-peer network that allows transactions to be confirmed without the need for central financial entities.
In Draper's words, it is the "trusted third party within software." However, the original Bitcoin was actually designed to eliminate the need for such trusted third parties, achieving this by replacing institutional trust with a system based on cryptography and decentralized consensus.
Therefore, rather than trusting a single organization to carry out the responsibilities that have traditionally been undertaken in a centralized manner, it is better to let software networks handle these responsibilities, without the need to trust any particular entity.
In fact, Draper himself was also one of the early important Bitcoin investors. In 2014, he spent approximately $29,656 to purchase Bitcoin that was seized from the Silk Road market in a U.S. government auction.
At the end of his latest post, this venture capitalist emphasized that it is entrepreneurs, not investors, who drive technological progress.
"It all began with an entrepreneur who depicted a world they had never seen before," he added.
