Lewood, Kansas, October 21st / PRNewswire / -- Optiv Today, we are pleased to announce the launch of CyberBOT ®, a free, hands-on cybersecurity learning program designed to help classrooms, non-profit organizations, and communities develop practical skills in identifying and defending against common cyber threats, enabling people to surf the internet more safely and confidently in a digitally AI-driven world.

Optiv Senior Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility Amber Peacher stated: "Schools, non-profit organizations, and local institutions play a crucial role in strengthening the communities they serve, but cybercriminals do not differentiate based on an organization's mission or its target audience. At the same time, many of these organizations lack the resources to invest in cybersecurity. CyberBOT aims to bridge this gap by providing educators and community leaders with a free and user-friendly resource, helping to establish safer digital habits and enhance cyber resilience throughout the year."

CyberBOT was developed by the online education team of Optiv. It makes the concepts of network security more intuitive through five interactive courses, focusing on common network threats that people encounter in their daily lives and the best practices for maintaining protection:

  • Cyber Threat Actors: Identifying cyber threat actors, motivations, tactics, and real attack scenarios.
  • Email Security: Detecting Phishing Attempts, Suspicious Information, and Email Threats.
  • Password Security: Create stronger passwords to prevent unauthorized access to your accounts.
  • Social Media Security: Managing Online Privacy to Reduce Exposure Risks Posed by Social Media Threats.
  • Mobile Device Security: Protect mobile devices, applications, and personal information from threats.

Each course combines hands-on activities with in-class exercises, aiming to make concepts of network security more engaging and easier to remember. The activities include short stories, posters, group analyses, games, and role-playing, giving participants the opportunity to apply what they have learned in real-life-like scenarios.

CyberBOT also provides educators and event hosts with a comprehensive "Educator Guide," which contains everything necessary to carry out the program, including workshop topics, event descriptions, time management guidelines, and printable templates. Educators can also use the downloadable certificate templates to recognize students who have completed each course and demonstrated their commitment to cybersecurity awareness, digital safety, and responsible use of technology.

Operation Breakthrough CEO Mary Esselman stated: "We have been eagerly awaiting Optiv to launch this online awareness training program. The more our students understand, the safer they will be when engaging in online activities. These skills are crucial, and they are presented in a way that truly captures the attention of children. We offer career exploration courses in cybersecurity for teenagers, and Optiv's course will be an excellent introduction to the subject."
