Taipei, October 16th / PRNewswire / -- With the implementation of the European Union's Cyber Resilience Act ( CRA ), cybersecurity compliance is becoming an increasingly important requirement for industrial equipment and edge AI products entering global markets. Advantech ( TWSE : 2395) announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding ( MOU ) with a global expert with over 100 years of experience in testing, inspection, and certification. Both parties will combine their expertise in industrial computing, cybersecurity testing, and global certification to help end-users and system integrators meet cybersecurity requirements from the product design stage, accelerate compliance with EU CRA regulations as well as international standards such as IEC 62443, reduce compliance risks, and shorten time to market.

At the signing ceremony, Miller Chang, President of Advantech's Embedded Business Group, stated: "With the rapid development of edge AI, compliance is evolving from a pre-product launch certification process to a key factor that customers need to consider at an early stage of product design. By combining Advantech's expertise in industrial computing and edge AI, as well as DEKRA's global certification experience, we aim to help customers identify regulatory requirements earlier, reduce compliance risks, and shorten time-to-market, enabling reliable edge AI innovations to enter the global market more efficiently."

DEKRA CEO Stan Zurkiewicz stated: "Digital trust is crucial for industrial innovation to succeed in the global market. As AI and connected technologies become an integral part of manufacturing, energy, and transportation, companies need verifiable evidence of security and network security to enhance external confidence in these new technologies. Our collaboration with Advantech combines its industry experience with the third-party independent testing and certification expertise of DEKRA. The role of DEKRA is to provide independent assurance to help companies meet the ever-changing international requirements and build trust in new technologies."

Cybersecurity compliance should be addressed from the design phase to reduce development costs and market entry risks.

Advantech and DEKRA are bringing their testing and compliance expertise to the early stages of product development, helping customers identify regulatory and technical requirements of different markets from the design phase, plan certification paths in advance, and identify and resolve potential cybersecurity gaps throughout the development process. The scope of cooperation includes technical and feasibility assessments, document reviews, certification preparation, vulnerability management, and security development support. This approach helps customers reduce the time and cost associated with later design changes, while establishing a complete compliance process from product concept and design development to testing, certification, and market deployment.

First milestone: Industrial edge systems meet the requirements of IEC 62443-4-2 SL2.

As a preliminary result of the collaboration, Advantech's AFE-E630 industrial edge system has passed the independent assessment by DEKRA and obtained a compliance certificate ( AoC ). This product is designed for commercial and industrial energy storage management applications, and its security features meet the requirements of IEC 62443-4-2 SL2 within the scope of the assessment. This provides a proven foundation for network security of products in these applications and can also serve as a reference for subsequent product integration and system-level compliance assessments by customers.

The collaboration will extend to areas such as edge computing AI, semiconductors, robotics, energy, and transportation, in order to enhance network resilience and expand into global markets.

In addition to existing industrial applications, Advantech and DEKRA plan to expand their collaboration into emerging technology areas, including industrial systems empowered by AI, semiconductor manufacturing, robotics, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and other mission-critical unmanned systems, as well as energy station equipment and traffic management, in order to accelerate entry into global markets. As edge AI becomes increasingly integrated with physical devices, the requirements for product safety, functional safety, and cybersecurity are becoming more interrelated. Advantech and DEKRA will combine Advantech's edge computing platform and industry application expertise, along with DEKRA's expertise in cybersecurity, testing, and functional safety, to enhance the security and reliability of the next generation of intelligent devices.

As global market cybersecurity regulations continue to evolve, Advantech and DEKRA will continue to combine our respective expertise to help customers more efficiently meet compliance requirements in different markets, reduce risks associated with global deployments, and accelerate time to market. This will further support the expansion of edge AI and intelligent industrial applications into global markets.
