BTQ Technologies will bring post-quantum security capabilities to the full-stack infrastructure of MoonPay Korea's Korean won stablecoin. This infrastructure covers the entire process from issuance to the final delivery, and it also connects to MoonPay's global payment network.

Key points:

  • Full-stack post-quantum security coverage: BTQ will serve as the security partner for MoonPay Korea, helping to prepare its Korean won stablecoin infrastructure for quantum-related threats, covering issuance support, distribution, wallets, settlement, and the final delivery to users and merchants.
  • Joint Roadmap and Proof of Concept with the Bank of Korea: Both parties will develop a phased post-quantum security roadmap and conduct proof of concept tests with the Bank of Korea to test the use of Quantum Secure Stablecoin Network ( QSSN ) for quantum-safe transaction signing and key management.
  • Connect to the MoonPay global network: The infrastructure of MoonPay Korea links the Korean won stablecoin to a network that serves over 35 million customers, covers approximately 180 countries, and includes more than 1,500 corporate clients. It supports global distribution, cross-border settlements, and wallet access.

Vancouver, Canada, October 9th / PRNewswire / -- BTQ Technologies Corp. (“BTQ” or “Company”) (Nasdaq: BTQ) (CBOE CA: BTQ) is a global technology company that builds trust infrastructure for the quantum era. The company announced a strategic partnership with MoonPay Korea under MoonPay Inc. MoonPay is a leading global encrypted payment network. Under this partnership, BTQ will serve as MoonPay Korea's security partner for stablecoin infrastructure in South Korea, with a focus on post-quantum cryptography (“PQC”).

MoonPay Korea is building full-stack on-chain infrastructure for South Korea's emerging won-backed stablecoin market, covering issuance support, distribution, wallet access, settlement, and currency exchange, all the way to the final delivery to users and merchants. The responsibility of BTQ is to protect this technology stack from current and future threats, including the risks posed by quantum computing to the cryptography used to secure digital assets.

This collaboration enables BTQ to enter one of the most innovative infrastructure constructions in the Korean stablecoin market and connects it to a global network. MoonPay serves over 35 million customers, covering approximately 180 countries and more than 1,500 corporate clients. MoonPay Korea integrates KRW-backed stablecoins into this network for distribution, cross-border settlements, and wallet access; therefore, the infrastructure that BTQ helps to protect in Korea is also designed to be accessible to users and merchants worldwide.

The scope of cooperation includes:

  • Quantum migration roadmap. BTQ and MoonPay Korea will jointly develop a post-quantum security roadmap for the MoonPay Korea stablecoin infrastructure, which includes a list of cryptographic assets, risk prioritization, and a phased migration plan.
  • Conducted QSSN concept validation with the Bank of Korea. Through MoonPay Korea, BTQ will jointly carry out the concept validation of its Quantum Secure Stablecoin Network ("QSSN") with the Bank of Korea, testing the implementation of quantum-safe transaction signatures and key management in the wallets and settlement infrastructure that support the Korean won stablecoin.
  • Covering full-stack security. Both parties will promote post-quantum preparation work at all levels of the MoonPay Korea infrastructure, from issuance and distribution to wallets and final delivery.
  • Cooperation with Korean financial institutions. BTQ will, together with MoonPay Korea and its banking and institutional partners, support the quantum security standards of the Korean won stablecoin ecosystem.

MoonPay APAC stated that: "The stablecoin capabilities of MoonPay cover the entire technology stack, from issuance support to settlement and distribution. MoonPay Korea focuses on providing the 'last mile' services, enabling Korean partners to put these capabilities into use. As our security partner, BTQ will help us develop a post-quantum security roadmap and assess how their technology can support the long-term resilience of this infrastructure."

BTQ Technologies CEO Olivier Roussy Newton stated: "The stablecoin infrastructure in South Korea is under construction, with security design incorporated from the very beginning. Its durability will far exceed that of security measures implemented afterwards." MoonPay Korea is building one of the most comprehensive technology stacks on the market, covering everything from issuance to the final delivery. By becoming a security partner, BTQ's post-quantum technology can be directly integrated into the infrastructure that will support the operation of stablecoins in Korean won."

South Korea is moving from bank-led stablecoin pilots to the adoption by domestic merchants and cross-border settlements, and a regulatory framework for the Korean won to support stablecoins is also being established. MoonPay Korea provides infrastructure for distribution, cross-border settlements, wallet access, and currency exchange in this market. South Korea's oldest commercial bank, Woori Bank, is the first member of MoonPay Korea KRW Stablecoin Consortium.

Stablecoins that carry national currencies, are stored in self-managed wallets, and can be transferred across borders rely on cryptography to authorize issuance rights, key management, and transaction permissions. As quantum computers are expected to pose a threat to today's public-key cryptography system in the future, these systems need to remain secure for a very long time. Therefore, for the infrastructure of Korean stablecoins, post-quantum security is not an after-the-fact upgrade, but a design requirement.

Building on the existing security framework for Korean stablecoins established by BTQ, this collaboration further strengthens BTQ's position in the field of post-quantum security within Korea's digital asset infrastructure. BTQ previously announced that QSSN had been selected as the core security technology provider for the concept verification projects involving Finger Inc, iM, and Bank. This project, developed based on Kaia's mainnet, is South Korea's first bank-led won stablecoin infrastructure to incorporate post-quantum cryptography. BTQ has also reached commercial agreements with LINE NEXT and Kaia DLT Foundation to deploy QSSN within the Kaia ecosystem.

BTQ Chief Strategy Officer Youngsuk " Jeff " Choi indicates that 'South Korea is setting the pace for regulated, bank-grade stablecoins, and the infrastructure decisions made now will define the market for the coming years.' MoonPay Korea is delivering a complete technology stack, all the way to the last mile, and will also connect South Korea to MoonPay's global network. As its security partner, BTQ can ensure that this technology stack is quantum-safe from the very beginning. Combined with our collaboration with South Korean banks and fintech companies, this puts QSSN in a central position regarding the security of South Korea's stablecoin infrastructure."

Wallets, custody systems, and settlement networks rely on public key cryptography to authorize transactions and protect keys. Powerful quantum computers are expected to crack the elliptic curve and RSA schemes currently used by these systems. For digital assets, the risk is direct: once the signing keys are compromised, so are the assets.

QSSN aims to provide post-quantum protection for transaction signing, key management, and settlement, without affecting the existing user experience or operational processes. By collaborating at the infrastructure level, BTQ and MoonPay Korea hope to extend this protection to issuers, banks, wallets, and merchants that connect to the system.
