The CEO of the American oil giant Chevron warned on Wednesday that it would be "unwise" for the Trump administration to pursue a ban on diesel exports, as such a policy could potentially make the supply situation worse.

"When the world needs it, the United States has always been a reliable supplier," said Chevron CEO Mike Wirth on Wednesday in the CNBC program " Squawk Box Europe ."

"I believe it is unwise for the United States to raise doubts in the minds of our allies and partners about whether we will still provide reliable supplies during difficult times, so there are other options," he added.

At the time of his remarks, concerns about supply seemed to ease as exports of crude oil from the Middle East increased and the G7 ( G7 ) urgently released its reserves. However, participants in the energy market remain vigilant, as Saudi Arabia and Houthi forces supported by Iran continue to launch attacks against each other.

The US-Iranian war has severely disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway that typically carries about 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supply, and it has had an impact on the global economy.

Saudi Aramco's CEO Amin Nasser stated earlier this week that it may take up to two years to rebuild global oil inventories, and warned that the supply shortage could further worsen as the US-Iran war continues.
